Facebook reportedly facing fine from US FTC
According to the report, Facebook and the FTC are in talks over a settlement that could require the firm to pay a fine for data privacy lapses relating to the Cambridge Analytica scandal.
The FTC has been looking into Facebook’s privacy practices since March 2018. The investigation has been focused on whether the social network’s sharing of data with Cambridge Analytica violated a 2011 agreement with the FTC to safeguard user privacy.
The newspaper said an amount had not been agreed by the FTC and Facebook.
A Facebook spokesperson said: “We are cooperating with officials in the US, UK, and beyond. We’ve provided public testimony, answered questions, and pledged to continue our assistance as their work continues.”
