UKOM to issue tender for audience measurement contract
Nielsen, the incumbent, was awarded the contract in September 2009, seeing off rival bids from Ipsos/Gemius, GfK and ComScore.
Since May UKOM has been consulting industry stakeholders about their wants for the new system. Although only half way through the current contract cycle, UKOM says the early start on renewal would mean “considerable changes could be made” to the supplier contract if deemed necessary.
It would also allow suppliers the time to build a solution “from scratch” if that is what is required, said UKOM general manager James Smythe.
The invitation to tender is expected to be issued next month with a final decision on a supplier due in December.
