TV ratings body OzTam names independent chairman

AUSTRALIA — Michael Anderson has been appointed to the new role of independent chairman of TV ratings body OzTam, in response to competition concerns raised by one of the organisation’s owners.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) was called in last September by TV network Ten – one of three networks that run OzTam – to investigate how the ratings organisation operated.

At the end of its investigation, the ACCC recommended that an independent chairman be installed, and OzTam today unveiled Anderson in the role. He has spent the last 25 years working in the media industry, including two decades with the Austereo radio network where he spent six years as CEO. He is currently a non-executive director at Fairfax Media.

Steve Weaver, who will step down as OzTam chairman but remain a director said: “We welcome Michael to the OzTam board. His diverse experience, industry relationships and commercial acumen will be of great benefit and guidance to the directors and management team.”
