TNS opens Myanmar office following last year’s client win

MYANMAR — TNS has opened an office in Myanmar after receiving what it says is the first license for an international insights consultancy to operate in the country formerly known as Burma.

Jason Copland who will report to Ralf Matthaes, regional managing director of TNS Indochina and Myanmar, will lead TNS Myanmar.

In June last year, TNS won its first global FMCG client contract just weeks after sanctions were lifted on the country.

The company said that to help clients rapidly build an understanding of the market, TNS had conducted the largest ever consumer study in Myanmar based on interviews with 11,000 people in 12 locations.

“Myanmar consumers have a keen interest in the outside world and a growing exposure to it through media,” Copland said. “However, there are unique attitudes and a real polarisation of wealth that creates a dichotomy for marketers, which we are helping our clients to unravel.”
