Sorrell’s pay rejected by a fifth of WPP investors

UK – Excessive chief executive pay packages have drawn increasing attention in recent years and WPP’s Sir Martin Sorrell has been one of the most talked about.

At yesterday’s WPP AGM in London, 21% of shareholders either voted against or abstained in the vote over this £48m pay package. Among those shareholders voicing concern were Hermes Investment Management and the Local Authority Pension Fund Forum.

Last year his £72m pay package – one of the biggest in UK companies – was opposed by a third of shareholders.
