UK – The National Centre for Social Research (NatCen) has appointed Sir Stuart Etherington as its new chair of trustees, replacing Sir Robert Burgess.
Etherington (pictured) was formerly the chief executive of the National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO), which he led for 25 years until departing in 2019. During his time at NCVO, he led a major government review of fundraising regulation.
He is also currently chair of The Oversight Trust, and was chief executive of the Royal National Institute for Deaf People before joining NCVO.
Etherington will take up his new role in February, when Burgess retires.
Guy Goodwin, chief executive of NatCen, said: “We have enjoyed much success in recent years but there is still so much more for our charity to achieve as the independent voice at the heart of the big debates around our society in the 2020s.
“Sir Stuart’s appointment reflects these ambitions and I very much look forward to working with him.”
