Australian researcher in talks to take over Indian readership survey, says press report
INDIA— Australia’s Roy Morgan Research is in talks with the producer of the Indian Readership Survey (IRS) to take over the contract from current supplier Hansa Research, according to business newspaper Mint.
Sources “familiar with the development” told Mint that talks between the advertiser-backed Media Research Users Council (MRUC) and Roy Morgan were “at an advanced stage”. Neither the MRUC nor Roy Morgan has confirmed the reports.
The news follows reports that Hansa recently pitched to revive the rival National Readership Survey, which is paid for by publishers, but has been suspended for the last three years because of doubts over its data.
Representatives of the bodies behind both surveys have said that it would not be acceptable for both to be conducted by the same agency.
