UK – Communications watchdog Ofcom has hired RTÉ deputy director general, Kevin Bakhurst, as content group director, overseeing its content and media policy.
Bakhurst (pictured) had been with the Republic of Ireland public service broadcaster since 2012 when he joined as managing director for news and current affairs.
He'd previously had a long career at the BBC, joining in 1989 as a researcher before rising through a number of roles to become deputy head of the BBC Newsroom and controller of BBC News Channel.
Bakhurst oversaw BBC TV and radio news and the news website, helping to create the BBC multimedia newsroom.
Sharon White, Ofcom chief executive, said: "I'm delighted that we've been able to appoint Kevin to run Ofcom’s content group. He brings significant editorial experience and leadership qualities, which will greatly benefit Ofcom."
