Nielsen system glitch: impact overestimated

US— News yesterday of a Nielsen system glitch and the potential fallout from incorrect TV viewing data was overplayed, the company has said – issuing a statement to clarify that currency measurements have not been affected.

The company moved to reassure the market that the problem, a calculation error in its NPower data processing system, would have “no impact to C3 commercial data [the main currency], ratings and projections, electronic data files used by other processors, or to reach or any other NPower-reported data”.

According to Mediapost – whose website carried the original story – a letter sent to clients by Nielsen explains that the glitch has resulted in “incorrect data for time-shifted data streams”.
