Nielsen launches streaming video ratings

US – Nielsen has added a ratings service for streaming, measuring performance across programme, platform and streaming category.

Streaming

The syndicated service is reported through Nielsen’s audience insights platform Npower, which offers data on total viewership and advanced audience demographic insights by streaming platform alongside linear TV ratings.

Nielsen’s Streaming Video Ratings will include data on how the various streaming providers compare and how different audiences stream.

At launch, it will cover viewership details from 10 streaming platforms and seven categories of apps, including subscription-based, ad-supported, network and social apps.

Kevin Rini, senior vice-president of product management, Nielsen, said: “It’s important for our clients to have a clear understanding of the streaming landscape, both from a programme or content perspective, as well as at a macro view of audience consumption that takes into account the total use of streaming platforms comparable to linear TV.”
