UK — The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) has released two short videos explaining the ‘data cycle’ – one aimed at organisations and one at consumers.
The videos show the journey from a member of the public entering a competition to win a holiday, to being inundated with nuisance calls, explaining how personal data can fall into the hands of organisations that are not compliant with the rules around how this data is handled. They are part of a joint operation between The ICO and Ofcom to tackle the issue of nuisance calls and messages.
According to the announcement of the launch of the videos — which can be viewed below — the ICO has issued £250,000 of fines this week to companies that have not followed the law around nuisance calls.
