Foursquare acquires Unfolded
The acquisition will allow Foursquare to offer customers access to a variety of first-party and third-party data and apply it to spatial features.
Unfolded runs Unfolded Studio, which helps turn geospatial data into maps, and works with open-source geospatial libraries.
The terms of the acquisition have not been released, and the acquisition is expected to close later this month.
Unfolded will continue to be led by co-founder and chief executive Sina Kashuk, who will become senior vice-president, head of Unfolded at Foursquare, reporting directly to Gary Little, president and chief executive of Foursquare.
Kashuk said: “By joining forces, we can dream up entirely new integrated solutions for businesses needing good geospatial data and the analytics to make sense of it. We’re excited to be mapping this path forward in geospatial intelligence.”
Little said: “This acquisition accelerates us toward our ambitious goal of bringing Foursquare Everywhere, and enabling businesses to unlock the true potential of location and geospatial data and technology.”
