US – Facebook will invest more than $1bn in content creators on its Instagram and Facebook platforms by the end of 2022.

In a statement from the company, it said that the investment would include new bonus programmes to pay eligible creators for hitting certain milestones when using Facebook’s monetisation and creative tools.

The social media giant will also provide seed funding for creators to produce content on its apps.

The bonus programme will feature in a dedicated space on the Instagram app later this summer and on Facebook in the autumn.

The bonuses include an in-stream bonus for video creators on Facebook, and a stars challenges programme extension that will select gaming creators.

Instagram is releasing bonuses for adverts, going live with another account and a US launch of bonuses for its Reels feature for video content.

The statement from Facebook said: “This investment brings together our many programmes and initiatives across the company that support creators and enable them to earn a sustainable income on our apps.”
