Doctors.net.uk invests in MedUniverse and links with Medcenter

M&A UK

UK— Online medical network Doctors.net.uk has struck two deals in recent weeks that should pave the way for more international research briefs for its dedicated market research business MedeConnect.

The company has taken a stake in Swedish counterpart MedUniverse. Founder Anna Omstedt Lindgren hopes to build out the website to connect doctors across the Nordic region.

“MedUniverse is at a relatively early stage in its development so this backing from Doctors.net.uk is of enormous value,” said Lindgren.

Meanwhile, Doctors.net.uk has formed a strategic alliance with Medcenter Holdings, an online healthcare marketing company that works across Latin American, Central American and Iberian markets.

Doctors.net.uk has a membership of 174,000 UK doctors, while Medcenter boasts 500,000 doctors on its books.

Richard Adams (pictured), CEO of Doctors.net.uk, said: “We have for some time been exploring how to better serve the needs of our pharmaceutical and healthcare industry clients on an international basis.

“The alliance with Medcenter is a perfect fit,” he said. Turning to MedUniverse, Adams said: “This investment gives us an important foothold in the Nordic market and it is an important step in out strategy to expand internationally.”

A spokesman for Doctors.net.uk said the expansion “is very much a response to international pharma and public health organisations wanting to communicate with and research doctors on a multi-country basis”.
