The Market Research Society launched the Research Heroes programme to celebrate the sector’s unsung heroes. Tilly Lewis has joined the cadre of Research Heroes 2024.
Tilly is senior marketing manager and wellbeing ambassador at Boxclever Consulting, a leading market research agency. With over 15 years of diverse marketing experience, she brings creativity and expertise to her role.
Previously, Tilly owned a community café, a welcoming space for people from all backgrounds. Her personal journey and the mental health challenges faced by her loved ones fuel her passion for promoting wellbeing. Outside of work, Tilly enjoys long walks with her dogs, followed by cozy afternoons at countryside pubs — ideally with some delicious grub.
Tilly was nominated because "her contributions extend far beyond our channels. Her commitment to serving others knows no bounds, as evidenced by her unwavering support for organisations such as the AMSR, This is Me Yorkshire, and her local food bank. Within our walls, Tilly’s impact is equally profound. As our wellbeing ambassador, she goes above and beyond to ensure colleagues’ welfare, continuously offering support and encouragement when it’s needed most. Her genuine care and concern extend beyond professional obligations. As one team member put it, “she’s the glue that keeps me mentally sane”. It’s no exaggeration to say that she’s an invaluable asset, and a true hero in every sense of the word."
What is the biggest challenge you have faced during your career?
How much time do you have? I would say one of the biggest challenges I faced during my career was navigating the unprecedented impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. I had only joined Boxclever in January 2020, and by the middle of March 2020, we were all working remotely. Living alone at the time, it was an uncertain and very isolating period. Ensuring the continuity and quality of our work while managing the personal and professional stresses of the pandemic was incredibly challenging.
However, this experience highlighted the resilience and adaptability of our team. Although, I now limit my office days to once or twice a week, the pandemic has made us all appreciate being together, and we certainly make the most of it when we are (in short, we don’t shut up).
What will be the next big trend or development in the research industry, and why?
Shock horror – I am not going to say something about AI. I would like to think the next big trend in the research industry will be a heightened awareness and appreciation of research as a fulfilling and impactful career.
With the increasing visibility of research outcomes and their direct impact on societal issues, more people are recognising the value of a career in research. This growing awareness will hopefully attract diverse talent, foster greater innovation, and simply raise awareness of how talented researchers are and all the different hats we have to wear. It’s an industry I am really proud to work in; I might even start a campaign #researchrules
Who inspires you as a researcher?
Cheesy alert... but in all honesty, I am inspired every day by the team at Boxclever. Their dedication, creativity, and collaborative spirit drive our collective success, and they never fail to wow me. Each team member brings unique strengths and perspectives, and their unwavering commitment to excellence motivates me. Their passion makes Boxclever not just a workplace, but a community of inspiring people who support and elevate each other while having fun along the way. I feel really lucky to work with such a great bunch of people.
