Gartner snaps up IT specialist Burton Group

US — IT industry researcher Gartner has acquired Burton Group, which specialises in research and advisory services for front-line IT workers, for $56m.

Gartner said that the deal, which was completed at the end of last year, would expand its product and service offerings and increase market opportunities in the IT sector.

Burton, which employs 41 research analysts and 40 sales and client services associates, has a projected revenue of $30m for 2009.

CEO Gene Hall (pictured) said: “Gartner has traditionally focused on providing strategic insight to CIOs and senior IT executives, while Burton Group has built a leading niche providing practical how-to advice to front-line IT professionals. Thus, Burton Group is a great strategic fit for Gartner and should enable us to offer a more complete solution to every level and functional expert within an IT organisation.”

The Burton deal marked Gartner’s second acquisition in the space of a month. Earlier in December it agreed a $64m deal to buy AMR Research, which specialises in research services for the supply chain and IT sectors.
