Survey Futures early career impact award winners named

The inaugural awards aim to recognise early career researchers working in social survey research.

Organisations from across the sector put forward their nominations for these inaugural awards and this year’s winners are:

• Beth Armstrong, Food Standards Agency
• Joanna Barry, NHS England
• Oriol Bosch, University of Oxford
• Rebecca Light, National Centre for Social Research
• Tom Luckwell, Verian
• Nathan Reece, City St.George’s, University of London
• Matt Shapley, Ipsos
• Michalina Siemiatkowska, Office for National Statistics

The winners will receive year-long mentoring and opportunities to further support their career through free training and professional recognition.

The awards event aligns with The Survey Data Collection Methods Collaboration, also known as Survey Futures, a programme that aims to support early career researchers and improve retention in the sector. 

Led by researchers from the Universities of Essex and Southampton, Survey Futures is funded by the Economic and Social Research Council for three years, and began in July 2023.

Peter Lynn, principal investigator, Survey Futures, said: “This initiative has provided an opportunity to showcase up and coming talent in the UK survey  sector. These award-winners represent some of the very best individuals working in survey research today and, with their help,  the future of survey research will be bright.”
