US— Nielsen has told its clients that it currently has no means of monitoring TV watched through Apple computers, but it does plan to have a meter compatible with Macs up and running by next year.
The ratings firm first announced plans to start measuring online viewing in TV panel homes last year. The rollout of the required metering technology has been gradual and Nielsen’s plan is to have the technology installed in all panel homes by 2011.
A Nielsen spokesman told Research: “We have communicated to people for some time that we were not currently measuring Macs but that we did plan to install a Mac meter this fall. So we should be measuring homes with Apple computers early next year when we fold online viewing into the national ratings.”
