AGB Nielsen renews TAM contracts in South Africa and Australia

SWITZERLAND— AGB Nielsen has renewed TV audience measurement contracts in South Africa and Australia, with the contracts running for seven and six years respectively.

The South African Advertising Research Foundation (Saarf) decided to stick with AGB Nielsen for its TAMS survey after a four-way tender. The new contract starts in 2011 and runs until March 2018.

Saarf said staying with the incumbent ensured “significant cost-savings” as the current panel and meters could be re-used, though some more technologically advanced households will be equipped with new Unitam meters to measure time-shifted viewing and digital terrestrial television.

Over in Australia, the RegTAM body that oversees regional TV audience measurement has renewed AGB Nielsen’s contract for the 2010-2015 period.

AGB Nielsen will be providing research services in the five aggregated television markets of Queensland, Northern New South Wales, Southern New South Wales, Victoria and Tasmania.
