Danielle Todd – Research Hero

Features People

This year, the Market Research Society launched the Research Heroes programme to celebrate the sector’s unsung heroes. Danielle Todd has joined the cadre of Research Heroes 2021.

Danielle Todd, Head of Client Strategy, Relish

Danielle Todd joined Relish Research in 2015 and was appointed as head of client strategy in October 2021.

Prior to joining Relish, she held research positions with Kantar and ECA International.

Todd is also a global advisory board member and the London event lead for WIRe, which works to advance the contributions and voice of women in research, both for themselves and for the greater good of the industry.

Todd was nominated as a Research Hero for her energy, commitment and her work to champion a more equitable research industry.

What is the biggest challenge you have faced during your career?

Learning how to prioritise. I love getting stuck in and am told I have the energy of a cheerleader on sugar, so tend to say yes, or offer my help wildly. I took up CrossFit two years ago (yes, I mentioned it, I can’t help it) and it’s taught me to focus my energies on exactly what I need to do to achieve my goals. Being able to remove the noise and focus on what you want to achieve is a game-changer.

What will be the next big trend or development in the research industry, and why?

Empathy: whether that manifests itself as working more collaboratively home to home – that quick Zoom call or Whatsapp to sign something off – or in how we understand the world we’re studying. We’ve all had to break down the walls between work and life a bit more, and understand that behind the brand or title, we’re all people with hopes, plans, fears, challenges… and I hope that understanding and inclusivity continues to be built into how we work as an industry, and how we perceive the world.

Who inspires you as a researcher?

One name immediately springs to mind: our founder and fearless leader Monique Drummond. Monique never stops impressing me with her energy, drive, creativity and curiosity, all of which are infectious. You feel empowered in her presence, and she encourages everyone on the team to pursue their passions, follow ideas and constantly supports us in learning and trying. She also has a filthy sense of humour, and makes a mean sourdough loaf.
