YouTube launches video trends tool

North America Technology

US— YouTube has launched a new tool that highlights the most popular content on the video sharing site.

The Trends service produces algorithmically generated feeds highlighting trending videos and topics, and provides a twice-daily collection of videos drawn from these lists. More in-depth analysis of the trends will be provided through a blog on the site.

YouTube users who sign up to the service can also explore which videos are the most popular in US cities and countries around the world through a dashboard, which also allows them to search within specific demographic sets.

Kevin Allocca, who is managing the new service, said: “As the project evolves, it will act as a laboratory for our engineers and staff to test out new ways of uncovering, displaying and providing context for important or interesting video trends.

“We see YouTube as a way to not just be entertained and informed, but also as place that can help us understand more about the world we live in and the people we live in it with. And that’s what YouTube Trends is all about.”
