US – Not-for-profit research organisation More in Common has made two senior appointments, including Kate Carney as chief of staff.
Carney (pictured) has experience in policy advising in the US congress and has founded a women’s charity called Write to Be in Haiti.
Other prior roles include working for teachers’ retirement organisation TIAA for more than three years, most recently as director of corporate social responsibility within the inclusion and diversity team.
Michelle Booth-Olivares has also joined More in Common US as communication associate.
Before joining More in Common, Booth-Olivares worked as director of communications for public policy and advocacy organisation K-12 and has also served as communications director for school district CCSD.
Carney and Booth-Olivares will help expand More in Common US’s research, advisory and partnership efforts across state, local and national levels.
More in Common is a research charity examining social forces pulling society apart and the solutions to bring society back together.
The organisation has operated in the US since 2018, with other teams working in the UK, France, Germany and Poland.
Dan Vallone, director at More in Common US, said: “Kate and Michelle will play a critical role in bolstering our efforts to disrupt the toxic polarisation in our politics and culture.
“The experience and perspective they bring to the team will enable us to expand the reach and impact of our work, and to further our mission of building a more united country that is resilient to the threats of us versus them division.”
