TNS takes digital TV measurement to SA
SOUTH AFRICA-- TNS has secured a contract to provide digital TV audience measurement using data from subscribers' set-top boxes.
The researcher has been selected by Oracle Airtime Sales to build a panel of 3,500 households which subscribe to satellite TV from Multichoice – South Africa's only non-terrestrial provider.
Upgraded set-top boxes will allow the collection of detailed information, including viewers' use of features such as programme guides and interactive advertising.
TNS said that although the numerous channels and services available through digital TV present a challenge for audience measurement, the new system provides a “ready-made solution”.
The firm provides a similar service in the US, based on a panel of Charter Communications subscribers in Los Angeles.
