Google sued over Toolbar data collection error

US— Google is being sued over a technical glitch that meant its Toolbar browser add-on continued tracking a web user’s browsing habits after it had been disabled.
New York resident Jason Weber has filed a class action complaint in California courts alleging violations of federal computer fraud and wiretap laws as well as California laws.
Google has yet to comment.
The search giant fixed Toolbar to stop unwanted data collection in January this year after Havard Business School professor Ben Edelman wrote about it in his blog.
Google said at the time that tracking would only continue until the user restarts the browser. ” Once the user restarts the browser, the issue is no longer present,” the company said. A fix that didn’t require a browser restart was also made available.
