Gallup crowned UK research Superbrand

Polling firm nabs top spot in MR brand rankings from ACNielsen

UK-- Gallup has knocked ACNielsen off the top of the market research category in the UK Media Business Superbrands 2009 survey, compiled by the Centre for Brand Analysis.

Elsewhere in the market research section, Millward Brown, Research International and TNS made the shortlist for the first time.

Ipsos Mori and Mintel each climbed three places in 2009 to second and third respectively. Moving in the wrong direction was BMRB, which slipped from second place in 2008 to ninth this year.

The final market research rankings – with the 2008 positions in brackets – were:

1: Gallup (3)

2: Ipsos Mori (5)

3: Mintel (6)

4: GfK NOP (4)

5: ACNielsen (1)

6: TNS (na)

7: Millward Brown (na)

8: Research International (na)

9: BMRB (2)

The annual survey of around 1,100 brands is broken down into categories including media owners, advertising, branding, PR and trade publications to portray the UK's “strongest business brands”.

A panel of experts and 1,500 industry professionals, who were quizzed through a YouGov panel, decided the rankings.

Google topped the overall Business list, followed by Rolls-Royce, Sony, Microsoft and Nokia.
