Cello, BVA and OTX break in to global top 25

New names join old faces in the latest ranking of the biggest research organisations

US-- Cello Research & Planning, BVA Group and OTX have broken in to the rankings of the world's top 25 research groups for the first time, according to figures compiled by Inside Research.

UK-based Cello, which owns Insight Research Group, Leapfrog and RS Consulting, was the highest placed new entrant at 21.

Michigan's Market Strategies International made its return at 22, having slipped off the table last year.

France's BVA Group and Los Angeles-based OTX follow in positions 23 and 24, pushing Japan's Dentsu Research to the bottom of the rankings.

But there has been little change at the top end of the table with Nielsen, IMS Health and TNS continuing to occupy the top three slots respectively.

GfK climbed to fourth place, moving WPP's Kantar into fifth. However, a shake-up is in on the cards in the coming years with both GfK and WPP circling TNS for a takeover.

The top 25 rankings are based on 2007 revenue, which as a group was up 7.7% year-on-year to $17.5bn. The full report is due to be published soon on www.marketingpower.com.
