Opinionaided servers hammered by spike in activity

North America

US— Quick-polling app Opinion Aided is discovering this week that success has its downsides as high activity levels keep taking the company’s servers offline.

Developers Kurani Interactive first reported outages over the weekend, as “a major spike in new users and activity” accompanied the release of version 2.2 of the iPhone app.

After a weekend of intermittent down time, founder Dan Kurani blogged yesterday to apologise for another outage. “We appreciate your patience as we work through managing this growth,” he said.

Opinionaided is available as an app and a website that lets users upload pictures – of an outfit they plan to wear, say, or a DVD they intend to buy – and ask other users to vote and comment on whether they are in favour or against.

Facebook and Twitter integration means Opinionaided questions can be shared by users within their own social networks, and Kurani also allows brand owners to piggyback on this platform, integrating paid-for questions in among the stream of user-generated polls.

It recently attracted $500,000 in funding from former Harris Interactive and Greenfield Online CEO Al Angrisani and Chuck Chesler, an angel investor in crowdsourcing.
