Cision settles with Dow Jones over content reproduction

Europe Legal North America

SWEDEN— Media research firm Cision has reached an out-of-court settlement with Dow Jones in a dispute over content reproduction.

The company says its US subsidiary has paid “a significant sum” to settle the claim brought by Dow Jones for the unauthorised use of Dow Jones content, including articles from The Wall Street Journal.

Full terms of the settlement were not disclosed, but Cision is no longer redistributing Dow Jones’ original content. Instead, Cision’s subscribers will be directed to Dow Jones if they want to obtain articles.

Separately, Cision announced a trading update for the second quarter showing a hit from the settlement. Underlying pre-tax earnings were expected to be SEK 35 million (£3.2m) but the cost of legal representation and the payout is expected to lead to a loss of SEK 10 million (£917k).
