UK — Group M has introduced its MEC, Mindshare and MediaCom agencies into sub-Saharan Africa following WPP’s acquisition of a controlling stake in East African advertising and communications company, Scangroup.
Dominic Grainger, GroupM CEO EMEA, said: “Sub-Saharan Africa is a key growth priority for many of our clients and we are increasing our presence and capabilities across the region. These operations will have a market leading position and the overall network, along with its affiliates, shall comprise a team of more than 150 people across sub-Saharan Africa.”
Scangroup COO Nandu Buty will head GroupM’s sub-Saharan operations based in Nairobi.
According to M&M Global, MEC in sub-Saharan Africa will be led by Monica Kambo, who joins from Ogilvy & Mather Africa, while MediaCom will be led by Rajiv Gopinath from MediaCom Singapore and Mindshare by Mac Machaiah from Mindshare Southern India.
Buty said: “There are a billion people living in Africa, economically the growth has been phenomenal and internet data has grown phenomenally. Clients like Coca-Cola, Unilever and Procter & Gamble have all now got a strategy for Africa, so it is the right time for us to move.”
