Twitter distances itself from UK agency launch

‘No official business arrangement' with Twitter Partners, says Biz Stone

UK-- Twitter has distanced itself from a business launched last week called Twitter Partners, which was set up to help brands spark two-way conversations with users of the site.

Biz Stone, co-founder of Twitter, wrote in a blog post that there was “no official business arrangement” between the two companies.

Twitter Partners was set up by former Nielsen Entertainment president Peter Read and boasts Universal Pictures, Warner Music Group and Virgin Media as launch clients. It lists buzz monitoring, customer insight, profiling and segmentation, and virtual focus groups among the areas it is looking to work in.

Stone said: “We have spoken with these folks in person and we wish them well as they endeavour to add value to the ecosystem that is growing around Twitter.

“However, the name, branding, and suggestion that Twitter has some kind of equity partnership or an agreement of any kind in place is misleading and wrong. We'll be working with Peter and his team to clear up this confusion.”

On Thursday, Research reported that Scott Gallacher was managing partner of the Twitter Partners business, however his role – as listed on the firm's website – has since been changed to that of an advisor.
