Tree co-founder named Cagney chief

Steve Mattey replaces Paul Simons following his resignation last week

UK— Steve Mattey, the co-founder of research agency Tree, has been appointed chief executive of the firm’s parent company, Cagney.

He replaces Paul Simons, who resigned from the marketing group last week.

Mattey said: “In line with Cagney’s established strategy, we plan to develop a group of businesses which are innovative in the communications services they offer and which challenge the mainstream communication industry by attracting high profile business.”

Cagney chairman Alex Hambro said: “With his wide range of experience in marketing services, running his own successful business and successfully integrating Tree into the Cagney group, he was the obvious choice as chief executive.”

Along with Matthew Bayfield, Mattey formed Tree in 2001 before the two sold their stake in the company to Cagney in 2007 in a cash and shares deal. Before setting up Tree, he headed the data planning unit at WPP-owned marketing agency Wunderman Cato Johnson.
