Sport England appoints Ipsos UK to conduct CATI Survey

Over 354,000 telephone interviews to be used to shape sports policy

Ipsos UK's public affairs unit has been awarded a contract by Sport England, to explore attitudes to recreation and leisure among the UK adult population.

The survey involves 354,000 telephone interviews, each lasting twenty minutes, across all local authorities in the country for Sport England, the organisation responsible for delivering the government's objective to increase participation levels in sport and active recreation.

Fieldwork will begin in October following piloting and testing, it will last a full year. Results on activities within communities and types of sport undertaken, are expected at the end of 2006.

Sam McGuire, director of public affairs at Ipsos, said: “Not only is this the largest CATI survey ever undertaken by an agency but the scope of the project is phenomenal.”

Nick Rowe, Sport England head of strategy and research added: “Sport has the ability to change people's lives and this project will play a critical role in helping us to understand people's attitudes, identify barriers to physical pursuits, and inform policy”.
