Skarzynski replaces Morris as Arbitron chief
US-- Arbitron has appointed Michael Skarzynski as chief executive officer, replacing Steve Morris, who has held the job for 16 years.
Skarzynski was most recently CEO of software firm Iptivia, where he was responsible for restructuring and global expansion of the business. He has also held chief executive roles at Performance Technologies, Xebeo and Predictive Networks.
Morris, who joined Arbitron as it was just starting to develop the portable people meter (PPM) measurement system, said that with PPM up and running in 14 markets, now was “a good time to hand over the reins”.
He will retain the position of chairman, and will act as an advisor to Skarzynski during the transition.
Skarzynski will have to follow through what has proved to be a problematic process, with complaints from clients about PPM data leading to delays in the rollout schedule and legal disputes over alleged flaws in the system costing the firm more than half a million dollars.
Arbitron is now tied to various commitments under settlements signed with the attorneys general of New York and New Jersey to implement quality assurance measures and secure accreditation from the Media Rating Council for PPM.
In a statement, Skarzynski said: “My priorities are clear: focus the collective talent and commitment of the Arbitron team to support our worldwide customer base and ensure our joint success in today's economic climate.”
Skarzynski's appointment is effective immediately. He will be based at Arbitron's offices in Columbia, Maryland.
