RAS founder Sheila Kemp dies aged 85

UK— Sheila Spittle (née Kemp), founder of Research and Auditing Services (RAS), died in hospital on Boxing Day at the age of 85.

Spittle – known to most in the industry by her maiden name Kemp – began her market research career working for Sales Research Services before setting up RAS in 1962, which expanded from a fieldwork provider to a full-service research agency.

Former colleague Ivor Stocker said: “Sheila was an extremely nice lady. She was very generous with both her time and money. She will be sadly missed by her family, friends and colleagues.”

Spittle was involved in fundraising for charities including the Market Research Benevolent Association (MRBA).

She leaves behind her husband Tom, brother Sidney, sister Audrey, children Jill, Richard and John and grandchildren.
