Pay deal ends dispute at NZ call centre

Employees secure 50 cent an hour pay rise following industrial action

NEW ZEALAND-- A settlement has been reached between the Unite union and data collection firm OCIS, settling a pay dispute at a research call centre in Auckland.

Unite reported that an agreement was reached on Saturday, bringing an end to a lockout of protesting staff by OCIS, and the withdrawal of legal action against the union by the company.

The union, which had been pushing for a raise from $12.50 to $15 per hour, has settled for $13 per hour, with the opportunity for employees to earn up to $1 extra per hour if they achieve certain performance standards.

The action by Unite was part of a campaign targeting various research call centres in the country, including operations run by Synovate and Surveytalk.
