Nielsen to provide data for Google TV ads

Audience profiles to be combined with set-top box data

US-- Nielsen is to provide demographic data to Google for its TV ad platform, as the first step in a strategic relationship between the two firms.

The search giant's TV ad service, launched in May, delivers ads to subscribers of Echostar Communications' satellite and Astound Broadband's cable services.

Viewing data is already sourced from set-top boxes, however the tie-up with Nielsen provides Google with data on the demographic composition of the audience.

The firms said they are exploring a number of other opportunities to work together to measure online and other media. Further terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Nielsen chairman and CEO David Calhoun said: “The relationship with Google – which we expect will expand significantly in the months ahead – is a prime example of the ways Nielsen is embracing new technologies, platforms and relationships worldwide.”
