Nielsen ceases political polling in Australia

Asia Pacific Government News

AUSTRALIA — Nielsen has announced that it is to cease political polling in Australia.

The Fairfax Nielsen Poll, a collaboration between Nielsen and Fairfax that started in 1995, will cease from July.

According to a statement from director of Nielsen Pacific, Chris Percy, published on Australian media site mUmBRELLA, the decision was taken to reflect “the evolution of Nielsen’s business towards a much greater focus on core strategic work directed at consumer purchasing and media consumption”.

The move leaves Fairfax seeking a new partner for its political polling.

“The Fairfax poll will continue after our current arrangements with Nielsen come to end,” said Allen Williams, managing director of Australian Publishing Media, which publishes The Sydney Morning Herald, The Age and Financial Review.

“We are currently exploring a range of options to strengthen and broaden the new Fairfax poll’s depth and reach. We are hoping to capture an even greater diversity of views in an ever-changing and fast-moving political landscape.”
