Sony teams with CBS for research on home 3D experience

US— Sony is to work with broadcaster CBS to research what audiences want from 3D video and display technology in the home.

The technology company will conduct the research through CBS’s Television City research facility at the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas.

Sony broke the news at the Consumer Electronics Show, which is taking place this week in Las Vegas. During its keynote presentation the company announced a range of new 3D compatible TVs, Blu-ray players, PCs and digital cameras due for release this year.

As part of its efforts to encourage adoption of 3D, Sony also plans to open a centre in Culver City, California, to train people in the sports, movies, television and games industries in creating 3D productions.

“Our mission is to support the spread of high quality 3D throughout the marketplace,” said Chris Cookson, president of Sony Pictures Technologies.
