Nielsen to reissue ABC data

US— Nielsen is reissuing TV ratings for broadcaster ABC after an error meant that viewing figures were undercounted during the country’s switch to digital transmission last week.

A spokesman for the ratings firm told Research: “In the process of switching to digital transmission Friday, we made an error with some of ABC’s line-ups. When we discovered the error we fixed it and will be releasing updated ratings for ABC.”

According to reports in the US, ABC asked for an investigation into its figures after Nielsen’s numbers showed a three-million decline in viewing figures for its World News programme.

The firm will reissue the data today.

Nielsen estimated that some 2.8m US households, or 2.5% of the TV market, were unprepared for the digital switchover last week when analogue signals were switched off.
