MR pushes for exclusion from Singapore Do Not Call list

SINGAPORE— The Market Research Society of Singapore has pressed the country’s Ministry of Information, Communications and the Arts (MICA) to exclude market research from Singapore’s proposed Do Not Call list.

The ministry has sought feedback and comments on the proposal and the MRSS responded by saying that it “applauds” the initiative, but that legitimate market and social research surveys should be excluded from the anti-telemarketing measures.

MRSS, which worked with Esomar to formulate its response, said that it “looks forward” to discussing how the list will be implemented, especially how the issues of sugging and frugging will be dealt with “as it impacts the good name of research”.

The association also pointed out that its membership rules exclude any research company that has a link to telemarketing or other aspects of direct marketing.

Earlier this year, enforcement agencies from 12 countries joined forces to launch an international Do Not Call list.
