Esomar switches APAC conference venue after Thai unrest

NETHERLANDS— Esomar has moved its 2010 Asia Pacific conference from Bangkok to Kuala Lumpur in light of the political unrest in the country, which saw 21 people killed in demonstrations over the weekend.

The research industry association, based in Amsterdam, said: “Events in Thailand over the past weekend escalated to a point where there is now too much uncertainty regarding Esomar’s ability to ensure the safety of all attendees.”

The event, which runs from 25-27 April, will now be held at the JW Marriott Hotel in Kuala Lumpur.

In a statement, Esomar said: “We sincerely regret any inconvenience that this change may cause, but we strongly believe that ‘the show must go on’ and that it was far more important that we err on the side of safety for you, our supporters and our staff in this situation.”
