Nielsen rolls out TV audience measurement service in Puerto Rico

US— Nielsen has launched its TV audience measurement service in Puerto Rico, where it will provide ratings data from a panel of 500 homes fitted with people meters on their television sets .

The firm was awarded the contract to run the service in the country in December last year and will deliver the first set of results by the end of April.

Puerto Rico’s three largest TV providers – WKAQ-TV, WLII-TV and WAPA-TV – have signed up as customers of the ratings service, along with media agencies Arteaga & Arteaga, Starcom, Draft/FCB, EJE Sociedad Publicitaria and Kairos.

Victor Vazquez (pictured), Nielsen’s executive director for Puerto Rico, said: “We are proud that we have built what is arguably the world’s most representative and accurate television panel in Puerto Rico. We are committed to providing high quality measurement of what people watch and we believe this launch is the beginning of a long and productive relationship with our clients.”

WKAQ-TV’s president and general manager Hilary Hattler welcomed the launch, saying: “The television industry is in a state of transition and Nielsen has the tools we need to provide our clients with the best insights now and in the future.”
