Nielsen bags TAM renewal deal in New Zealand

NEW ZEALAND— Broadcasters Sky, TVNZ and TVWorks have awarded Nielsen a new eight-year contract to continue supplying television audience measurement (TAM) services in New Zealand.

The firm will provide the broadcasters with audience figures drawn from both live and time-shifted viewing.

Nielsen will also expand the country’s sample from 500 to 600 homes in preparation for the digital switchover, which has been pencilled in for 2012.

Rick Friesen, chairman of the Broadcasters’ Negotiation Committee and chief executive of the New Zealand Television Broadcasters’ Council said: “The new devices that viewers are introducing into their homes will now be matched by the next generation of measurement technology, enabling Nielsen to provide us with the gold standard in media measurement.”

“This renewal delivers our industry consistency in the ratings, and leverages the strengths established over the past eight years.”

The new deal comes into effect at the beginning of July.
