MR firms publish first reports from Second Life

New Zealand's Market Truths and France's Reperes get to grips with the online virtual world

First reports from two real life research agencies working in online virtual world Second Life were published this month.

Market Truths and Reperes have recruited panels of SL residents over the past few months to take part in surveys.

New Zealand-based Market Truths' first study “provides a snapshot of demand and supply in the Second Life women's clothing market during the fourth quarter of 2006”, according to the company's website.

The report can be purchased within SL from the Market Truths office, priced at $5,000 Linden dollars – the virtual world's currency – which is equivalent to around US$19.

Managing director Mary Ellen Gordon told Research: “We're working on a report on the SL real estate market, and have one on perceptions of real life brands in SL scheduled for after that.”

Meanwhile Reperes, based in France, has published an exploratory study of how SL is perceived by its resident. It is free to download from the Reperes website (click here).
