Mobile researcher Jana opens Singapore office

US— Jana, which provides research and marketing services using text messaging, has opened an office in Singapore.
The company has hired three sales directors to work with clients in India, Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand and Singapore.
Jana’s research arm uses text messages to gather information from respondents in developing countries, in exchange for mobile airtime.
Through partnerships with mobile operators in more than 85 countries, its activities include consumer surveys as well as other information gathering exercises such as advertising audits and tracking blood supplies for hospitals.
The company, previously known as TxtEagle, was founded in 2009 by Nathan Eagle (pictured), and received $10m funding in April this year.
Eagle said: “We work with clients in the APAC region regularly, so it was a natural progression for us to have a home base here.”
