Micro-location startup wins John Lewis’s first tech business incubator

News Technology UK

UK — Localz, a startup that uses positioning technologies including Apple’s iBeacons, WiFi and GPS to calculate a shopper’s location, has been crowned the first winner of JLAB, John Lewis’s first technology business incubator.

As part of its prize, the startup has been awarded £100k in investment and the chance to trial its solution with John Lewis.

Localz uses Apple’s iBeacon technology, as well as WiFi, GPS, QR codes and near-field communication (NFC) to calculate a shopper’s precise location. This information can then be used to send content and offers to shopper’s phones. The technology can also be used to track assets, including time and temperature-sensitive items, and carry out mobile payments.

More information on Localz can be found here.
