US— Consumer and retail information agency NPD Group is to acquire In-Stat, a firm of analysts focused on the mobile and digital entertainment industries.
NPD backed In-Stat’s management when it bought the business from Reed Elsevier in April last year.
Mark Kirstein (pictured), In-Stat CEO, said: “As part of the NPD Group’s Analyst Services we will be better able to serve our clients on a global basis, as well as leverage NPD’s complementary market information and scale.”
In-Stat’s main research focus is on the mobile internet and digital entertainment markets – specifically, the technology that supports them. Analyst coverage includes mobile devices, 3G deployment, wi-fi networks, in-home entertainment equipment and media and content delivery systems.
NPD also owns the DisplaySearch analyst business which focuses on the flat panel display and electronics markets.
In-Stat will report in to Tim Bush, general manager of NPD’s Analyst Services.
