IMS Research acquires Young Market Research

US— Electronics market research agency IMS Research has acquired Young Market Research (YMR) for an undisclosed amount.

YMR was founded earlier this year by father-and-son team Barry and Ross Young, who previously formed flat panel display research agency DisplaySearch and sold it to the NPD Group in 2005.

Ross Young (pictured top) will now lead the display research division at IMS and act as principle analyst in the photovoltaic (PV) sector while Barry will work on other projects for IMS.

Ian Weightman, senior vice president and head of US operations at IMS, said: “This strategic acquisition enables us to move stongly into the displays research area, which was one of the few gaps in our portfolio. It also helps us to consolidate our positions in the TV, PV and solid-state lighting markets.”

On the Youngs, he said: “Bringing their knowledge and experience into IMS will enable us to achieve the aggresive growth targets we have set ourselves.”
