Aegis tables bid for Mitchell Communication Group

AUSTRALIA— Aegis, owner of research agency Synovate, has proposed a deal to buy marketing and communications group Mitchell for A$363m.

Mitchell works predominantely with clients in areas such as communications strategy, media buying and planning and digital media and marketing, but it also maintains consumer insight research capabilities within its agencies Mitchell & Partners and MPG.

Shareholders in the group can choose whether to receive cash, Aegis shares or a combination of both in return for their stake in the company.

The board of Mitchell said it “unanimously recommends” that shareholders accept the deal. If they do, Mitchell founder and chairman Harold Mitchell will become a “significant” shareholder in Aegis and the leader of the combined Aegis Media Pacific business.

Aegis Group CEO Jerry Buhlmann (pictured) said: “Mitchell is the leading marketing communications group in Australia, the eighth largest ad spend market in the world, and this acquisition is a further step in transforming Aegis’ operations in the Asia Pacific region.”
