Médiamétrie and Jungo tap ‘residential gateway'

New tool for tracking internet, phone and TV usage through broadband connections

FRANCE-- Media researcher Médiamétrie has teamed up with networking software firm Jungo to provide a new service collecting data on internet, phone and TV usage through household broadband connections.

The system is based on software installed on the ‘residential gateway' (such as a router or modem) which connects a home to a broadband provider's network. Jungo said it is able to monitor “the entire digital traffic flow that is being carried on all the multiple devices within the home”.

The data gathered is then combined with Médiamétrie's analysis of user behaviour.

Médiamétrie director Laurent Battais said: “The technology developed by Jungo is particularly innovative and interesting, as it resides at the crossroads between the network and the household. It enables a more in-depth assessment of the habits and tastes in the digital home.”
